Welcome to Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School
Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School redesigns learning to offer relevant and flexible experiences focused on developing student agency, advocacy, and a passion for making a difference in the world. Inspired by the charism of the Christian Brothers, the teachings of St. John Baptist De La Salle and the legacy of the Franciscans and Dominican Sisters, our students enter to learn and leave to serve.
Our personalized learning program is built on three big ideas from Todd Rose at the Harvard Graduate School of Education:
- Jaggedness: Recognizing that every student learns differently. What works for one student may not work for another.
- Pathways: We all learn at different speeds and in different ways.
- Context: What students learn has to be important to them in one way or another.
At CRDLS, our instructional model seeks to accelerate student learning by tailoring the instructional environment—what, when, how, and where students learn—to address the individual needs, skills, and interests of each student. Students can take ownership of their own learning, while also developing deep, personal connections with each other, their teachers, and other adults. We believe in the power of these relationships to transform lives.
In short, our personalized learning model frees teachers to meaningfully connect with students because strong relationships with kids are the heart of teaching. This is why the central tenet of our instructional model is that we partner every student with a mentor for their four years with us. Mentors help students navigate challenging, personalized pathways of learning via the Summit Learning Platform and make connections between what students are learning and what they see in their community, in their corporate work study environment, and in the goals that they have set for themselves in college and life.
I invite you to visit our campus and witness the transformation that is happening on a daily basis.
With gratitude,
Principal
