Cristo Rey De La Salle students ready to go to work
Nearly 70 incoming freshmen from Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School in Oakland gathered alongside corporate executives from the Bay Area business community to participate in “Draft Day” on Aug. 3. Representatives from companies such as Blue Shield of California, Chevron, Deloitte and Kaiser Permanente, along with several other businesses, “drafted” a team of four student associates to work at an entry-level job at the company during the upcoming school year as part of the school’s corporate work-study program. Each student will work five days a month; the students’ salary will help pay the cost of tuition. School begins Aug. 15; they begin the work-study program Sept. 4. For more information, visit
