“I am convinced that love is the most durable power in the world. It is not an expression of impractical idealism, but of practical realism. Far from being the pious injunction of a Utopian dreamer, love is an absolute necessity for the survival of our civilization. To return hate for hate does nothing but intensify the existence of evil in the universe. Someone must have sense enough and religion enough to cut off the chain of hate and evil, and this can only be done through love.”

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Friends, families, students, partners, and supporters, we are engaged in a very important work here at Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School:  the transformation of (our) lives through education and work.  Built around a rigorous, personalized college-prep curriculum and an innovative corporate work study experience, we are levelling the playing field for underserved and underrepresented youth of Oakland and the East Bay.

As a Lasallian Catholic high school, we go about this work in a very particular way:  accompanying our students, their families, and each other in our journeys to lead lives of wholeness, meaning and purpose, and agency.  We unite ourselves in relationship together and put our faith in the presence and action of God in our lives.  It is the power of these relationships that transform lives of students through the “love” that Martin Luther King, Jr. speaks about in the quote above:  the durable power of love.

Please join us in continuing to spread the word about Cristo Rey De La Salle, come visit our campus, share this message, and unite with us for the transformation of lives through education and work.

Peace,
