Dear Friends,

After a very successful and historic first semester at Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School, we are excited to reflect on the progress we’ve made. During the 2018-2019 school year, we’ve had the amazing opportunity to witness our inaugural freshmen class flourish from bright-eyed teenagers into professional young adults within their workplaces.

St. John Baptist de La Salle, patron saint of teachers and founder of the De La Salle Christian Brothers said, “To be entrusted with the teaching of the young is a great gift and grace of God.”

With springtime upon us, we continue to watch in joy and amazement how our students are growing into young men and women of mission, purpose, and service. Watching them blossom in school and at work is a direct result of our community of donors, supporters, ambassadors, volunteers, parents, staff, faculty, and board of trustees who continue to nurture, water, and gently prune our students who have chosen Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School for their educational experience. For this, we are so very grateful to each of you for your tireless effort and commitment in supporting our work as we prepare our students to succeed in college and in life.

As American poet Edgar Guest once stated, “Spring’s greatest joy beyond a doubt is when it brings the children out.” As you read through our Spring newsletter you will see our students out at school, work, sports, and community. This joy that we see daily would not be possible without support from you. Thus, after reading through our newsletter, we would like you to consider making a gift to support our current and future students. We realize that this transformational work that we have embarked on is only possible because we are blessed to have such a strong community behind us.

With Gratitude,
Matt Powell, Former Interim President
Ana Hernandez, Principal
John Coughlan, Director of the Corporate Work Study Program
