Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School, St. Elizabeth Campus, a diverse, Lasallian Catholic learning community serving only low-income youth, has named fundraising veteran Greg Young as Director of Mission Advancement. Mr. Young will be responsible for creating and growing a comprehensive fund to support the launch and ongoing operations of the high school.
At Cristo Rey De La Salle, families contribute a fraction of the actual cost of tuition. The school’s unique financial model includes an innovative Corporate Work Study Program, in which students work five days a month in a corporate setting, gaining real world experience while earning up to half of their annual tuition. The remainder is supported through scholarships funded by school donors and friends. These scholarships allow Cristo Rey De La Salle to serve an economically diverse student population in accordance with its mission and philosophy.
“We are thrilled to welcome Greg Young to Cristo Rey De La Salle,” said Mike Anderer, Cristo Rey De La Salle President and CEO. “Greg brings the perfect mix of experience in donor cultivation and stewardship, paired with a commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive school environment. This combination will be invaluable as we continue to build and provide a personalized education with a unique financial model.”
Mr. Young has more than 20 years of experience in corporate/community relations, fundraising and diversity and inclusion. He joins Cristo Rey De La Salle from Bank of America, where he most recently served as Vice President, Consumer Lending Officer. Prior to that, he spent 13 years at Wells Fargo, supporting sales, corporate stewardship and strategic partnerships. Greg Young has also held a variety of sales and marketing roles at American Express and Procter & Gamble.
In addition to his corporate background, Mr. Young has a passion for underserved communities. He has held leadership roles with non-profits including Executive Director of the Bay Area Leadership Foundation and Youth Experience Counselor with the Youth Employment Partnership. Greg currently serves on the boards of the Bay Area Development Company and Juvenile Hall Auxiliary of Contra Costa County.
“It is an honor to join the team at Cristo Rey De La Salle,” said Greg Young. “They have been working hard to build the latest Cristo Rey school, and I look forward to growing a strong backbone of financial support through grants, gifts, awareness building events and communication.”
Mr. Young received a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communications from the University of California, Berkeley, a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from the University of San Francisco and a Master of Business Administration from Saint Mary’s College of California.
