Our celebration and observance of Black History Month at Cristo Rey De La Salle began with a community conversation where students, faculty, staff, and volunteers had an opportunity to engage in dialogue about inclusion.

Out of that community conversation came a series of initiatives. We heard from special special guests including Logan McDonnell from Downtown Streets Team, Ameer Keith Brown from Adobe, and Jade Smith Williams from the local law offices of Walkup, Melodia, Kelly, and Schoenberger during our Morning Gathering Assembly. Each guest had an opportunity to share their life trajectory, vocation, and words of wisdom with our Mustangs.

Also, some of our own faculty and staff led sessions during our Friday Academic Explorations Series.  Mr. Valencia and Mr. Trinidad each led sessions related to social justice and social equity. Ms. Davenport led a session highlighting the innovations of Black inventors.  We also had a number of community guests join us including author Jesse Byrd who led a session on Storytelling and Naji Ali who talked about his experiences as an open water swimmer and athlete. Finally, we highlighted Black excellence with a series of posters in our entrance foyer showcasing quotations of notable Black pioneers.
